Wine Shop to Pop Cork on Christopher Street

West Village strip’s retail shift toward artisanal ventures continues, with a new store called Uncorked hoping to open its doors to oenophiles by September.

West Village wine lovers are getting a new shop. Uncorked Wine Co. recently signed a 10-year lease for 550 square feet at 98 Christopher St., between Bleecker and Bedford streets. Asking rent for the space was $185 a square foot.
Uncorked, a new venture from entrepreneur Paul Common, is expected to open for business in September. It replaces a novelty gift store from Michael Shalan, who is subleasing the space.

Though Hudson Street has its share of wine shops, KRISTIN McCANN, the Sinvin Real Estate broker who, with colleague JOSH BOWLING, represented Mr. Shalan in negotiations, said Christopher and Bleecker streets are lacking in such amenities.

“Bleecker has become predominantly fashion, and historically, Christopher has been pretty novelty-oriented, but now, there are a lot of new artisanal stores opening,” she said, noting new Swedish candy shop Sockerbit Sweet & Swedish.

Gregory Tannor of CB Richard Ellis Inc. represented Uncorked. The space is owned by Clearwater Properties.
