People who shop the West Village are going to do a double-take when they see what’s moving into 548 Hudson St., which housed gay bookstores for many years

A Different Light was there first, followed by Creative Visions, which closed in December.

The new tenant opening this June is a high-fashion clothing shop – for pregnant women.

Belly Dance Maternity is coming from Chicago for its New York City debut, to sell apparel and accessories by Diane von Furstenberg, Liz Lange and other top designers.

“Hudson’s becoming a family-friendly street,” said owner Jennifer Strom Simonte.

She knows this first-hand because she and her husband and business partner Steven Simonte moved their home to the West Village last year. She’s seen the parade of strollers along Hudson, heading toward area parks.

So she was quick to appreciate the Hudson site, unlike many other space-hunting fashion retailers.

“For them, Bleecker Street was the be-all and the end-all, “ said Christopher Owles of Sinvin Realty. He and colleague Porter Fulmer brokered the 1,600 square foot lease deal for Belly Dance and landlords Pauline and Nicolas Oudin.

Simonte wants to build at least one other Manhattan store, which she’ll locate uptown. Most of her Web site traffic comes from the city.
