Women’s Apparel Shop Finds Ready-made Space for 2nd Spot

A new flower is blooming on Spring Street. Women’s apparel boutique Helianthus signed a seven-year lease for 500 square feet on the ground floor of 196 Spring St., between Sullivan and Thompson streets. The asking rent was $204 a square foot.

The space, which includes a 300-square-foot storage basement, will be the retailer’s second location. Founder Grace Wang opened a spot on La Guardia Place 18 months ago.

“The first store is near NYU, so it’s younger, cuter,” says Ms. Wang. “The second store will be a little more mature with prices on the higher end.”

Since the Spring Street spot formerly housed another clothing retailer, Z’Baby, Ms. Wang won’t have to spend too much on renovations, a factor that played a role in her decision to lease the space. Helianthus is expected to open by May 1.
