Madden Horns in on Bleecker Street

By Kira Bindrim | April 30, 2007

The West Village’s “Fashion Row” has a new resident.

Shoe designer Steven Madden Ltd. signed a 10-year lease for a 1,400-square-foot Steve Madden store at 355 Bleecker St., between Charles and West 10th streets.

The ground-floor store—Steven Madden’s fifth site in Manhattan—places the retailer near high-end neighbors in a three-block strip that extends from Bank to Charles streets. Nearby residents include Marc Jacobs, James Perse and Juicy Couture.

“It’s exciting for Steve Madden to be so close to that area,” says Sinvin Realty broker Kristin McCann, who represented landlord 355 Bleecker in the deal. “There aren’t fashion shoe stores there right now. They’re going to be able to grab that market and take a little niche for themselves.”

Nestled in a three-story landmark building, Steven Madden will also have access to a 1,400-square-foot basement. The asking rent was $300 per square foot on the ground floor.

Sinvin principal Bruce Sinder represented Steven Madden, which plans to open the Bleecker Street location in May.
