Comforting Meals for West Siders

By Adrianne Pasquarelli | October 6, 2008

Everyone can use a little comfort food in unsettling times. That’s what Julie Taras Wallach and Tasha Garcia Gibson are counting on.

The co-owners of the popular Little Giant on the Lower East Side have signed a 15-year lease for 1,500 square feet at 156 Ninth Ave., between West 19th and West 20th streets, where they plan to open a second eatery, Tipsy Parson. Asking rent for the space, which includes the basement, was $120 a square foot.

Scheduled to open early next year, the 75-seat spot – named after a liquor-soaked dessert popular in the South – will be triple the size of the other restaurant.

“We’ll be able to accommodate large parties and buyouts for birthdays,” Ms. Wallach says.
STEVE RAPPAPORT, a senior director at Sinvin Realty, negotiated the deal on behalf of both the tenant and the landlord, Edward Yam.
