Bagels boil over onto Bleecker Street

A new shop will open just down the street from Murray’s Cheese, Amy’s Bread and Risotteria in a rising foodie haven.

Bagels are boiling onto Bleecker Street. Bantam Bagels will launch its first location at 283 Bleecker St., between Seventh Avenue and Jones Street, after signing a 15-year lease for 750 square feet. Asking rent for the deal, which includes a 300-square-foot basement, was $208 per square foot.

“The foot traffic here is very strong, year-round, which is important for them as an emerging brand,” said Cara Rosenbloom, the City Connections Realty broker who, along with colleague Steve Asch, represented landlord Whistlepig Associates. “Bleecker just off Seventh Avenue has a blend of locals and tourists,” she added. Other food establishments including Murray’s Cheese, Amy’s Bread and Risotteria are just down the street.

This won’t be the sole outpost for Bantam for long. The company, which will sell mini-bagels with different fillings as sliders, is also looking to open locations in the financial district, midtown and the Upper West Side, according to Steve Rappaport, the Sinvin Real Estate broker who represented Bantam. It will open for business by September, replacing an apparel boutique in the space.
