Long-closed lounge goes to the dogs

A longtime lesbian bar and lounge in the West Village is going to the dogs.

Retail broker Steve Rappaport recently closed on a deal to lease the space at 21 Seventh Avenue to Dogma, a doggie day care and grooming service.

Formerly occupied by the Crazy Nanny’s gay bar, 21 Seventh Avenue sits on the corner of Leroy Street. The two-story free-standing building offers 44 ft. of frontage and 1,390 s/f of ground floor and 1,390 s/f of second floor retail space. Asking rent was $22,500 a month, according to Rappaport, senior managing director at Sinvin Real Estate. Dogma signed a 15-year lease and expects to open within the next few months. Rappaport, who represented the landlord, said the space has been vacant for almost two years, but had previously had a long history as a lesbian bar.

“This unusual, free-standing space, at the junction of The West Village and Hudson Square is the perfect home for the use,ˮ said the veteran broker.

Michael Brais of Douglas Elliman represented the tenant.  Dogma Spa is being developed by Jun Takama, a lifelong lover of dogs..
